Nevis Information – The Island
Nevis is 36-square-miles of unspoilt beauty and lies near the top of the Lesser Antilles archipelago, about 200 miles south of Puerto Rico close to Antigua. Nevis and St Kitts are not too far from North America or Europe. They can be reached on a weekend cruise from Florida or short flight on a British airline.
Also known as “The Queen of the Caribees” Nevis Peak dominates the Island towering to 3,232 feet.
Covered with lush green vegetation Nevis is a haven for wild life and perfect for a romantic wedding. The small human population of only 10,000 ensure that Nevis retains the unspoilt, friendly feel many have come to love about Nevis. You won’t all of the amenities you are used to if you live in a big city but some comforts like luxury hotels and spas, mobile Internet, and popular movies are available.
Nevis boasts a newly designed well equipped hospital with many state of the art features…… and few patients. The medical facilities are constantly being updated and a recently opened Medical University with over 200 hundred students is situated on the Island
Most visitors currently fly to Caribbean hub island and connect with carriers mentioned below to St. Kitts or Nevis. Combining a Jamaican vacation with a hop to Nevis is also a popular option.
Except for United States and Canadian citizens who may present proof of citizenship in the form of a birth certificate, voter registration or naturalization all other visitors are required to present passports. On arrival, an immigration officer will stamp a period of time in your passport (a maximum of 30 days). Extensions can be requested at the Immigration Department in Charlestown. On departure you will have to turn in your immigration card, and pay a departure tax of EC$40.00 or US$15.00 per adult an additional US$1.50 Environmental Levy.
